One of the most common tactics scammers use is creating a sense of urgency. If someone pressures you to act immediately—before you have time to think—it’s often a red flag.
These are known as Urgent or Immediate Action Scams, and they are designed to make people panic and respond quickly without verifying the situation.
At Security Bank USA, we want our customers to stay informed and confident when it comes to protecting their finances.
How These Scams Work:
Scammers may contact you by phone, text message, email, or social media, claiming that something is wrong and that you must act right away. Their goal is to create fear or stress, so you don’t stop to question the request.
Common messages might sound like:
- “Your bank account has been compromised. Act now to secure your funds.”
- “Your package cannot be delivered unless you confirm your information immediately.”
- “Your computer has a virus. Call this number now to fix it.”
- “Your account will be locked unless you verify your information today.”
- “A loved one is in trouble and needs money right away.”
In these situations, scammers may ask you to provide personal information, send money, click a link, or move funds quickly.
Red Flags to Watch For:
If you receive a message demanding immediate action, pause and look for these warning signs:
- Pressure to act immediately
- Threats of account closure, legal action, or financial loss
- Requests for personal or banking information
- Instructions to send money through unusual methods (gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency)
- Links or phone numbers you didn’t expect
Remember: Legitimate organizations will not pressure you to make rushed financial decisions.
How to Protect Yourself:
If you receive a suspicious message or call:
- Slow down. Scammers want you to panic—take a moment to think.
- Do not click links or download attachments from unexpected messages.
- Do not provide personal or account information unless you initiated the contact.
- Verify the request by contacting the company directly using a trusted phone number.
- Talk to someone you trust before sending money or sharing information.
